Little rain and snow reaches this dry area, where natural forces have created a fantastic landscape. Surrounded by rugged mountains this land is completely different from the green landscape of many parts of the Himalayas. Bounded by two of the world’s mightiest mountain ranges, the great Himalaya and the karokaram, it is a land which has no match. In geological terms, this is a young land, formed only a few million years ago by the buckling and folding of the earth’s crust as the Indian sub-continent pushed with irresistible force against the immovable mass of Asia. Its basic contours, uplifted by these unimaginable tectonic movements, have been modified over the millennium by the opposite process of erosion, sculpted into the form we see today by wind and water.
Leh ladakh – Leh is the capital of ladakh. The place is bounded by two of the world’s mightiest mountain ranges in the world, the great Himalayas and the lofty Karakoram and transversely lies in between the ladakh range and he zaskar range. It forms a perfect intersection of mountains that ads to the serenity of the place. Ladakh lies in rain shadow area and is often called as the high altitude cold desert of Northern India. The average altitude of the place lies in between 9000 feet to 25, 170 feet. The summers are pleasant and the best time for visiting the place with maximum temperature of 27 degree. The winters are extremely harsh and most of the time the temperature plummets to minus 20 degrees.
